The Indian government will shortly issue a notification giving effect to a mandatory quality control order (QCO) for nickel, government sources said on Monday, June 12.
They said that, following the implementation of the QCO for nickel, no manufacture, sales, trade, import of the metal will be permitted without quality certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Under QCO rules, every manufacturer, trader, seller and importer will need to apply for certification from BIS to the effect that their product (nickel) complies with the quality specification laid down by the latter.
It is stipulated that, in case of imports, BIS will issue a certification after inspection of the manufacturing plant overseas, the sources clarified.
